Some simple steps will ensure you keep well and get the most out of your break away.
It’s easy to get carried away with the excitement of a holiday, especially abroad. You’re taking in new sights, sounds, smells and tastes. It’s an adventure for the soul. But rich foods and drinks, lack of exercise and the stress of travel, particularly with young children, can take a toll on your health. To avoid paying for it later on, take a few measures to ensure you stay healthy during the hectic holiday times.
REMEMBER TO GET ENOUGH SLEEP - The holidays are often exciting and sometimes stressful. Combine that with flights or lengthy road trips can often leave you being sleep deprived. Lack of sleep can make you overeat, cause dizziness, make you sluggish and affect your mood. Aim for six to nine hours a night and take a short nap in the afternoon if you need it. If you’re short on sleep, try to rest while on the plane or in the passenger’s seat of the car.
WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN - Stop germs in their tracks. Remember: wet, lather, scrub, rinse, and dry. Practice it frequently throughout the day to avoid and or prevent the spread of Covid-19, diarrhoea and respiratory disease, too.

EAT SMART - Travelling often offers people a chance to relax their regimes and sample new things, but make sure you eat well while travelling to and from your destination. Beware of the holiday cheer. Many hotels offer complimentary Champagne, snacks or holiday cakes. The result can be hard on your system. Pack Udo’s Choice Ultimate Digestive Enzyme Blend to aid your digestion. A unique blend of seven plant-based digestive enzymes assist in the breakdown of proteins, fats, carbohydrates and fibre, and can be found in your local health food store or pharmacy before you travel. Perfect for taking on holidays as they do not need to be kept in the fridge.
ALWAYS KEEP HYDRATED - Drink lots of water, especially if you’ll be flying. Spending long hours in a plane or in the heat can dehydrate you considerably. Carry a large bottle of water with you to have throughout your flight, and take vitamin C and zinc to keep your defences as high as possible.
EAT FISH - If you’re staying by the sea, eat lots of fresh grilled fish. Oily fish – including sardines, fresh tuna, salmon and mackerel – is particularly good as it’s rich in omega-3, which keeps your skin hydrated and encourages healthy digestion as well as weight loss. Try to eat a variety of different coloured fruits and vegetables – oranges, red peppers, green courgettes, yellow sweet corn – to get a wide range of antioxidants.
PROTECT FROM THE SUN - Lying in the sun feels great after all those long lockdowns, but you only need 10 minutes of unprotected sunshine to get your daily dose of vitamin D. You should always use sunblock to protect your skin. As we get older, collagen breaks down more rapidly, leading to lines, wrinkles and discolouring. To prevent the breaking down of collagen, eat lots of purple fruits, such as fresh blackberries, blueberries and purple grapes.
